The overall objective of this study was to gather empirical evidence on self-compassion in college students. The integrative review covered articles published from 2009 to 2021, indexed in PsycINFO, PubMed, Scopus and Web of Science, in Portuguese, English or Spanish. A total of 183 files were found and, after the screening, eligibility and selection steps, 9 papers were included, following the PRISMA guidelines. The analysis was categorized from two topics: (i) self-compassion-based interventions for academics and (ii) self-compassion as a protective psychological factor for higher education students' mental health. The results showed that self-compassion is considered an important protective factor for positive psychological functioning and the development of constructs that reflect positive dimensions of mental health and academic performance in college students.
