The following article addresses the theme of student vulnerability, with the objective of presenting the main recurring vulnerabilities in Higher Education institutions, which corroborate with student dropout. The entrance, adaptation, and permanence in higher education encompass issues from several ambits and instances of the student's life, and from these demands arises the need for actions of assistance and aid from institutions for the reduction of retention and dropout. Identifying the reality and the vulnerabilities of the student public is a first step to face and prevent the impartialities in the course. This is an integrative literature review. Scientific databases were consulted (Scielo, Scopus, Web Of Science, APA, Eric) from 2016 to 2020. It was possible to realize that the difficulties occur in several aspects and factors, which implies the importance that successful practices that contribute to the development and institutionalization of student support services in higher education institutions are recognized and published.
