Abstract

This article aims at producing an interpretation of analysis from researches published in journals, thesis, and dissertations concerning the topic of compulsory preschool between 2010 and 2020. It is a theoretical study which, through the systematic study of this production, attempted to find quantitative recurrences. Thus, the interpretation allowed to outline three analytical tendencies in a qualitative way. The first one refers to the discussion that compulsory preschool was established amid other laws that established nine years of elementary school and, consequently, the reduction of the time dedicated to preschool and to the questions concerning the children’s right to live childhood. The second one is related to the agenda of multilateral organisms which, through the status granted to certain scientific evidence, above all those from neuroscience, attempt to link the frequency at preschool to good results in elementary school.  The third one presents the main strategies cities have given up in order to universalize preschool. Among them, the increase of partnerships, the creation of preschool classes in elementary schools, the offer of part-time schools and the privatization of education.
