Impacts of Environmental Variables on School Efficiencies: A Two-Stage DEA Analysis for the State Public School Network of Espírito Santo in 2023

This study analyzes the efficiency of state schools in Espírito Santo, Brazil, in 2023, using two-stage Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) to evaluate how factors exogenous to school control are correlated with efficiency levels. The results indicate that schools with higher socioeconomic levels, more stable teaching staff, family background, and safe school environments tend to be more efficient, whereas teacher overload is associated with higher inefficiency. The questionnaire-based variables further highlight the roles of student engagement, family support and perceived school violence. These findings provide relevant evidence for education policies aimed at improving school efficiency.
