EJA is a type of education aimed at students who did not have the opportunity to complete their basic education in the past. Understanding this type of education and the learning actors involved in it can enable more effective teaching practices, as it takes into account the goals, aspirations, and needs of these students. This study is part of the main author's doctoral research and constitutes the state of the art on research addressing the theme of actors between 2020 and 2025. Given this, the question arises: how does research outline the profile of the actors involved in YAE learning? The overall objective is to conduct a literature review to understand how research constructs the profile of actors involved in YAE learning. This article is characterized as a qualitative literature review. In order to search for studies broadly, the following descriptors were used (“Youth and Adult Education” OR EJA) AND (“EJA Subjects” OR “EJA Students” OR “Youth and Adults”). The REDALYC, EBSCO, SCIELO, BDTD, and USP platforms were used as the database for this research. Ten studies from the last five years that fit the objective of this study were selected. It was possible to conclude that students in this modality are diverse, and it is necessary to recognize this diversity to guarantee their rights as citizens to access, remain in, and complete basic education.
