Science Education with Educational Robotics from the Perspective of Inventive Mathematics Education: Understandings Produced by Students about Mata Ciliar

This study aimed to analyze the understandings produced by students about the Mata Ciliar phytophysiognomy during an experience grounded in Inventive Mathematics Education with Educational Robotics. Adopting a qualitative approach, the study was based on cartographic intervention research and forms part of a broader investigation developed within the Professional Master's Program in Science Education. The Educational Product Educational Robotics in the Cerrado was developed through experiences involving 69 seventh-grade students in 2024, who collaborated in the composition of inventive worlds by building scale models, assembling and programming educational robots, and producing videos. Subsequently, the interactive book was shared with 33 seventh-grade students in 2025. The present study analyzes the understandings produced by the group of six students responsible for the Mata Ciliar module, based on their responses to the investigative questions, graphic productions, written records, and the reflective account produced at the end of the experience. The analysis identified four analytical movements: engagement with the inventive world and recognition of the elements of Mata Ciliar; production of understandings about environmental degradation and the classification of the phytophysiognomy; production of understandings about its ecological function; and production of meanings regarding the investigative experience. The findings indicate that the students produced understandings concerning the relationships among vegetation, water resources, soil, biodiversity, and human activities, while also recognizing that environmental degradation may hinder the identification and classification of Mata Ciliar. The analysis further revealed that the expression "helper forest," coined by the group of students, constituted a meaningful interpretation consistent with the ecological functions attributed to this phytophysiognomy. It is concluded that the articulation between Science Education, Inventive Mathematics Education, and Educational Robotics fostered the production of understandings about Mata Ciliar and highlights the potential of the Educational Product for the development of investigative experiences in Basic Education.
