This article aims to investigate whether ethnography is a theoretical-methodological framework used and disseminated in educational policy research. Methodologically, an exploratory literature review was conducted, mapping 60 Brazilian master’s theses and doctoral dissertations published between 2017 and 2024. The findings indicate that, in the Brazilian context, despite the predominance of qualitative approaches, ethnography and Anthropology still maintain a limited dialogue with educational policy research. Furthermore, a substantial portion of the studies in the sample were conducted by native researchers, understood as individuals who have or have had long-term professional ties with the object under investigation. At the same time, participant observation remains a rarely used research procedure.
