EDUCATIONAL INTERVENTION ON BIOSAFETY MEASURES WITH HEALTHCARE WORKERS TO FIGHT COVID 19

It is known that healthcare workers, due to their work process, are exposed to risks of illness from biological agents. This study sought to test the effectiveness of an educational intervention on protective measures against contamination, adopted by healthcare workers in the fight against COVID-19. This is a quasi-experimental, pre- and post-test study, with a non-randomized sample. Data were collected from healthcare workers linked to the municipality of Palmas - TO, before the educational intervention, in two phases: the first from June to August 2020 and the second from April to June 2021. Participants answered the Questionnaire on personal and work profile and the Questionnaire to assess knowledge and behavior regarding standard precautions and transmission-based precautions, including donning and doffing, and were evaluated on the hand hygiene technique with fluorescent alcohol solution. Regarding the protective measures adopted to combat COVID-19, the median score for standard precautions was 15 in 2020 and 16 in 2021; while the median for specific precautions was 7 in 2020 and 8 in 2021. In the association of previous participation in an educational intervention on biosafety and the variables standard precaution, specific precaution and hand hygiene, it was found that having participated in the educational activity in 2020 was a protective factor (OR = 0.36; 95% CI: 0.12-0.97) for adequate hand hygiene. It showed that educational intervention emerges as an important tool in facing scenarios similar to those of the COVID-19 pandemic.
