Abstract

The study aimed to evaluate the seasonal occurrence of the aphid Myzus persicae and the ant Solenopsis sp. in eggplant crops, cultivar Napoli, from transplanting to the end of the crop development cycle, in the region of Ilha Solteira – SP.

The experiment was conducted at the Teaching, Research and Extension Farm of FEIS/UNESP, using 180 seedlings transplanted to the field. Evaluations were carried out weekly, starting 33 days after transplanting, with a random sampling of 20 plants per week. Each plant was divided into upper, middle, and lower thirds for aphid and ant counts. Aphids were quantified in standardized areas on the underside of the leaves, and ants were counted on leaves and branches.

It was concluded that both the aphid and the ant showed higher incidence in the lower third of the plants, with distinct critical periods throughout the crop cycle, and that there is an ecological association between the two species, increasing the damage to eggplant.
