FROM ANTI-COLONIAL STRUGGLES TO ECONOMIC AND DEMOCRATIC INTEGRATION: AN ANALYSIS OF PAN-AFRICANISM AND AGENDA 2063

Abstract

Pan-Africanism, as an ideal of unity among African people, has become the ideological basis for the integration and socioeconomic development of Africa. With this idea as a pillar, the African Union (AU) has sought to balance sociopolitical challenges with the anti-colonial struggle since its formation to the present day. In this context, Agenda 2063, launched in 2015, comprises a long-term continental development plan with political and economic integration objectives. Based on bibliographic and documentary research, this work aims to understand the contemporary challenges related to the Pan-Africanist initiative of an integrated continent based on the framework of Agenda 2063. Based on a qualitative and interpretative analysis, this project begins with a detailed study of primary and secondary sources. Post-Colonialism will be used as a theoretical framework, given its direct relationship with the Pan-Africanist approach to the emancipation and self-determination of African people. Both movements promote an inclusive and holistic interpretation of African economic and democratic integration in the face of the challenges of the colonial past. The hypothesis is that economic and democratic integration policies, in accordance with Agenda 2063, enhance the Pan-Africanist perspective by aligning the development strategies of African countries with a shared vision of unity and progress. However, it should be noted that these are partial conclusions and that a more in-depth analysis is needed to understand the impact of the AU in promoting democratic and economic integration in Africa.
