Sport has been proclaimed as an excellent “tool” for developing values for good coexistence. However, the small number of studies on this topic, especially regarding intervention proposals, indicate that this relationship may be more in the field of speculation than in pedagogy based on scientific foundations. The objective of this research was to analyze the process of stimulating the construction of moral personality in the sports teaching environment based on a case study, guided by the ethnographic approach with participant observation. We investigated intervention proposals in the judo teaching environment for the formation of the moral personality of children and young people during five years of an extension project. As a result, we present the discussion of four thematic categories: i- The community and its values; ii- Heteronomy as a passage to moral autonomy; iii- Principles adopted in the sports teaching environment; iv- Depth in learning as the foundation of moral development. We conclude that the contribution to the formation of moral personality is possible, that the sports teaching environment can represent a space for meaningful relationships with this focus, but it requires intentionality and the creation of a rich moral culture.
