The culture circles used by Paulo Freire and his collaborators for the literacy of young people and adults have not lost their relevance, they have been developed with other characteristics and purposes. Thus, in order to investigate its uses, this systematic literature review aims to map experiences with culture circles in Brazil and Latin America. To this end, a search was carried out in the ERIC, Scopus, Web of Science and Proquest databases using the following descriptors “culture circle”, “education” and “Paulo Freire”. After inserting filters and inclusion and exclusion criteria, 26 articles were analyzed. The results show that the circle of culture has been used not only in education, but also in health education, human sciences research and undergraduate nursing courses. In addition, it was noted that it has been used to discuss a wide range of topics, and that it has been used by different audiences, such as children in early childhood education, elderly women, undergraduates, teachers and others. It is also noteworthy that experiences of the culture circle were found in both face-to-face and virtual formats. It is concluded that the culture circle continues to be a current and very versatile methodology that is well accepted by researchers and participants.
