From Eugen Bleuler's autistic thought to the DSM-V: the epistemological construction of autism and the explosion of its manifestation

This text, created through a literary review process, begins by describing the article by Eugen Bleuler that gave rise to the term autism, a work never translated in Brazil and that exerted profound interference in the transfer of this category in the academic field, especially after studies Kanner and Asperger research, which will also be portrayed here, as well as the analyzes by Wing and Rutter, other famous figures in the field of autism. After passing through the classic authors, this scientific work analyzes the transformations in the definition carried out in the concept of autism based on the Diagnostic Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM), considered the most important document in the diagnostic and symptomatological elaboration of this category. Finally, we raise questions and statistics with the aim of advancing discussions and contributing to the development of new perspectives on autism.
