Morton Smith (1978), Dominic Crossan (1994), Gabriele Cornelli (2006), Daniel Justi (2010) and André Chevitarese (2017, 2022) argue that Jesus of Nazareth was a wizard. The purpose of this article is to show that Jesus would hardly fit into the concept of a magician given the context of his time. Nor can Jesus be seen as possessing the secret knowledge of manipulating the forces of nature that characterizes the magicians of the time.
