the objective of this study is to present a literature review on the National Curricular Matrix established in 2003 by the Ministry of Justice and the guidelines for the training of civil police officers who provide care to juvenile offenders in police units. Based on a bibliographical and documentary research, an analysis of civil police training in the context of assisting juvenile offenders is presented, addressing the implications of inadequate action, the biopsychosocial specificities of adolescents and the difficulties that exist in the lives of these young people. In addition, strategies and guidelines are discussed to improve police training, in order to ensure that intervention with juvenile offenders is based on justice, equity and respect for human dignity. The research concludes that adequate police training contributes to a more humane and efficient socio-educational system, from the first service.
