Abstract

This article proposes to analyze the management shock that occurred on Petrobras after the 2016 parliamentary coup that took place in Brazil. We seek to systematize and relate changes in the conduct of this company with a profound change in the national political scenario. The 2018 election, in which the extreme right-wing candidate Jair Bolsonaro was victorious, supported by sectors of the financial market and with an extremely liberal program, can be understood as an offshoot of this scenario. We will carry out an analysis of the evolution of the company’s spending on productive investment during the 2000s. This empirical research will be contrasted with academic productions that analyze the changes in the relationship of forces between classes and class fractions in the Brazilian State.
