This article aims to characterize the discussions on the concept of Work presented in Didactic Works recommended by the Public Notice of PNLD 2021. The research developed is qualitative and followed the methodological guidelines of Grounded Theory (GT), as pointed out by Charmaz (2009) and Tarozzi (2011). As for the analysis, it was based on Bardin's proposals (2011) about floating reading and the coding process in articulation with the proposed categorization within the scope of GT. Nine Life Project textbooks were analyzed using a textual analysis script validated by a committee of evaluators. The results indicate that several didactic works conceptualized work as a human activity that modifies nature. There is also a certain absence of historical, philosophical and sociological elements about the concept of work. It is concluded that the analyzed didactic works avoided, in terms of discussions, the characterization of capitalism as a socioeconomic system in which students are immersed. In this way, such works contribute to the construction of a peaceful narrative around the world of work, since they ignore the abundant history of workers' mobilizations and struggles in the search for rights.
