The aim of this study is to understand whether there is a relationship between nomophobia and self-efficacy beliefs in university students. The mixed method was used and the study was divided into two stages. In the first stage, through an online form, two instruments were applied (Self-efficacy Scale in Higher Education and Nomophobia Questionnaire). In the second stage, semi-structured interviews were carried out. In general, the data indicate that the higher the perception of academic self-efficacy beliefs by college students, the higher the level of nomophobia. This relationship can be explained by the fact that students feel more capable of carrying out their academic tasks when they use digital technologies as a support, however, excessive use brings with it damage to learning. We conclude that, based on the results and reflections presented, other understandings are possible about the perception that students have about their ability to perform academic tasks using digital technologies. We understand that the high perception of self-efficacy beliefs cannot be considered a cause of nomophobia. However, we think that this result can contribute to raising awareness about the damage caused by the excessive use of digital technologies in the learning process.
