This study aims to analyze the perception of teachers of Specialized Educational Care about the clinical characteristics of Autism Spectrum Disorder and its influence on learning. The cross-sectional study was carried out in two stages, being the first stage descriptive, with exploratory data analysis, and the second, with an almost experimental design of the pre and post-test type. Participants were 65 teachers of the Specialized Educational Care, both genders, in active exercise in the schools of the Pernambuco State network in the Sertão region of the Mid São Francisco River. The instrument applied in data collection was elaborated in the format of a structured questionnaire, based on the criteria of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders 5th edition, and according to the Guidelines of Special Education for Specialized Educational Care in basic education, regulated by Decree No. 6,571/2008. The results show that teachers have gaps of knowledge about the clinical manifestations of this disorder, in addition to difficulties such as individualized assessment, preparation of the individual development plan and development of pedagogical strategies and interventions.
