Knowing how to read and write, as well as how to use these skills in our society daily, is an unquestionable need since both are widely used for the most varied purposes, regardless of the individual's age. We aimed to know which instruments for the evaluation of writing have been used in national productions in recent years. As a methodology, we used an integrative review, because it includes the analysis of relevant research that provides support for decision making. The protocol included the choice of databases to search; selection of keywords and eligibility criteria for the studies found in the time frame from 2015 to 2021. The results indicated 383 studies on the subject, of which we highlight 10 relevant studies considering the clarity and detail of the information about the methodology and instruments used. We verified the decline in the number of studies related to the theme of reading and writing in the last 7 years and the variety of instruments available for this purpose, despite the preference of most researchers to use the School Performance Test (SPT).
