Abstract

The article presents a synthesis of the data obtained through a qualitative study, of an exploratory nature, with the objective of investigating the professional development of teachers in emergency remote teaching during the COVID-19 pandemic, in the second half of the year 2020, including working conditions, teaching learning and mental health. The participants (n=364) are basic education teachers from different parts of Brazil who answered online questionnaires. The results point to precarious conditions in the teaching work amidst the absence/little experience with the use of digital technology in the teaching-learning process and the training offered by educational institutions was largely insufficient, which led to the search for complementation by own account. The teacher's experience and didactic knowledge as planning proved to be fundamental to deal with the challenges of this scenario. Mental health has been shown to play a crucial role in professional development, in addition to demonstrating a positive correlation with the presence of meaning in life.
