Abstract

Families constitute the first educational institution of a disable person by generating processes to allow them to develop comprehensively which must be optimized by public or private educational institutions. The problem arises when the educational role is not assumed in co-responsibility with schools, as some families are used to delegate almost all the education of their children to educational institutions. Based on this problem, the objective is to identify the perceptions of parents about their role in the educational process of their children with disabilities. To achieve the proposed research goal, a mixed approach was used to search for information in databases and a document analysis, which continued with the application of a questionnaire to a sample population of 92 families and then the information analysis and the interpretation of results. As a main conclusion, the study shows that a small group of families still delegate several functions about their children to educational institutions.
