Abstract

The article aims to address ways of teaching through an approach on sustainability with a focus on urban mobility. The work focused on teachers and students of elementary school II in the East Zone of the city of São Paulo. In the development of the activity "route map" the most recurrent trips made in the neighborhood and around the school were identified, qualifying them and discussing with the students each route and the means of transport used. Then, citizen inspections were carried out in streets around the school based on a methodology developed to evaluate public services of active mobility and integration with public transportation, considering the following categories: sidewalks and mobility; access to the city; attractiveness and public safety; road safety; and environment. The pedagogical practices adopted for new ways of teaching approaching the theme of mobility in the city contributed to teaching the syllabus in elementary school, in Geography and Natural Sciences. Moreover, the proposed practices are aligned with the Collaborative Authorship Work, addressing social or community problems, allowing students to reflect on their surroundings, recognize differences, and effectively participate in the construction of decisions and proposals aimed at socio-environmental transformation
