Technology has become a fundamental part of our daily experiences, permeating all aspects of society and playing an expressive role in our everyday interactions, at work, in education, and even in leisure activities. The choice of this theme was motivated by a reflection on how technologies can be used to foster student autonomy and active participation. The general objective of this theoretical essay is to understand how technologies can be incorporated into pedagogical practice to meet the educational demands of learners in the Youth and Adult Education segment (EJA). The study draws on Freirean pedagogical references and specialized literature on educational technology and EJA, consulting electronic articles in CAPES databases. Results indicate that digital technologies can serve as instruments of emancipation and student agency when articulated with critical didactic-pedagogical conceptions. It is concluded that Freirean pedagogy can and should be understood by specialists in the field of educational computing as a guiding reference for discussing topics involving the use of technology in education. Digital technologies contribute to innovative pedagogical practices that positively transform the teaching-learning process, provided they are grounded in humanizing and dialogical conceptions of education.
