This theoretical and propositional article discusses the incorporation of Artificial Intelligence (AI)
tools in higher education, encompassing the dimensions of teaching, digital culture, and university extension.
Based on recent literature on digital education, AI in education, digital culture, and digital university outreach, it
presents pedagogical, cultural, and outreach practices that foster the ethical, critical, and innovative use of AI.
Central themes include technological sovereignty – favoring open platforms –, teacher training for pedagogical
use of AI, digital literacy for students and teachers, critical education aimed at analyzing algorithms and data, and
the promotion of digital citizenship. The article argues that adopting these good practices can strengthen
institutional and educator autonomy in the context of digital culture, as well as form more critical and engaged
students. It concludes that investing in higher education that demystifies AI, stimulates technological
appropriation, and values social participation is essential for a transparent, ethical, and human-centered educational
future.
