We intend to investigate the “sovereign individual”, a figure that Nietzsche addresses in the On the Genealogy of Morality. After all, is the “sovereign individual” a Nietzschean ideal or not? Faced with this problem, there are those who provide a positive answer, such as Vanessa Lemm (2009), R. Lanier Anderson (2022), Brian Leiter (2019), and Itaparica (2026), as well as those who answer negatively, such as Hatab (2010) and Acampora (2006). Amidst this debate, our hypothesis is that, as the ripest fruit of the “morality of custom” (Sittlichkeit der Sitte), it would still act as a creditor, meaning it should not be interpreted as a Nietzschean ideal.
