The aim of this research is to analyze the effect of autonomy on motivation and performance among employees from Generations Y and Z at work. As for the method, a quantitative study was conducted with 198 individuals, carried out through a survey. For hypothesis testing, regression, moderation, and moderated mediation analyses were performed. The results showed that autonomy can significantly increase the motivation and performance of employees from Generations Y and Z at work. In addition, it was found that motivation partially mediates the relationship between autonomy and employee performance. Furthermore, it was verified that employee age range influences the effect of autonomy, being particularly significant for Generation Z. The study highlights autonomy as key to motivating and improving the performance of younger generations at work, suggesting that organizations adapt their cultures and policies to meet these needs.
