Abstract

This study aims to present a proposal for monitoring and evaluation indicators for early childhood education, using official data as sources, especially the 2024 Censo da Educação Básica (Education Census). Although the effective realization of the right to early childhood education has not yet been fulfilled, according to the goals established in national education plans, this process is underway, through the expansion of the supply of places and the formulation of policies that guide municipalities in guaranteeing quality early childhood education. Recently, early childhood education was integrated into the National Basic Education Assessment System, and the evaluation system for this stage has been the subject of tensions. Considering this scenario, the study, based on national normative documents that discuss the evaluation of early childhood education and standards of care for daycare and preschool, selected variables and proposed indicators, explaining the set of information available in official databases that could support both the evaluation and monitoring of access and some conditions of care.
