Older adult education has received increasing attention at a time when many countries are facing demographic ageing processes. In many of these countries, lifelong education projects enable access to education for older adults and the promotion of active ageing. One such country is Brazil, which has several higher education institutions that, through university extension projects, promote a variety of activities. This article analyses a non-formal lifelong education program that involves older adults within the framework of a university extension project that already has some tradition, an intergenerational education and active ageing initiative that seeks to respond to the needs of the population of Belo Horizonte. It discusses the design and impact of the project in terms of promoting lifelong and intergenerational education, as well as the challenges faced.
