This work addresses the established criteria for the use of Comic Strips in Science and Physics Textbooks. The interest in this investigation arose from identifying that the reviews in the Brazilian Textbook Guide (GLD) did not meet the criteria of the Brazilian National Textbook Program (PNLD) calls for proposals. The GLD reviews were analyzed and compared with the PNLD calls for proposals. The nature of research is qualitative and documentar and we used the Bardin’s Content Analysis (1977) as framework applied to the Science and Physics GLD between 2010 and 2020. This method was chosen because it allows the identification of recurring patterns and trends in the way comic books are incorporated into the documents in question. In general, comic books are associated with communication, language, a variety of textual and literary genres, and graphic design. However, their potential for contextualizing and deepening scientific concepts is underexplored. A comparison between the GLD reviews and the PNLD calls for proposals points to a greater appreciation for the textual diversity of comics in the calls for proposals, while in the GLD reviews they are addressed vaguely and disconnected from the subject content. Finally, we suggest that future investigations examine in more detail how comics are used in textbooks and that the perception of teachers and students regarding their effectiveness in the teaching-learning process be evaluated
