IN-SERVICE CONTINUING EDUCATION IN BRAZILIAN MUNICIPALITIES: CONTRIBUTIONS FROM ACADEMIC RESEARCH OVER THE PAST TWO DECADES

This article results from a bibliographic study conducted following the State of Knowledge approach, with the objective of outlining an overview of the main aspects of continuing teacher education in Brazilian municipalities between 2003 and 2023. Based on the State of Knowledge methodology developed by Morosini, Kohls-Santos, and Bittencourt (2021), fifteen academic works were analyzed, including master’s theses and doctoral dissertations from four regions of the country. The impact of public policies on in-service continuing teacher education was evidenced, highlighting both their positive and negative aspects. Under the influence of neoliberal ideology, which, although underlying the discussions developed by the researchers, revealed the effects resulting from the adoption of these policies in the process of teacher education and, consequently, in student education.
