Impact of TPM and 5S integration on product quality in the sealing area

Abstract

The research aimed to implement TPM and 5S methodologies to improve product quality in the sealing area of ​​a canning plant, contributing to SDG 8 through a more efficient, productive, and safe operation. An applied study with a quantitative approach and pre-experimental design was conducted, comparing the process before and after the improvements on a convenience sample of cans. Tools such as Ishikawa and Pareto diagrams, the RACI matrix, checklists, maintenance scheduling, and the 5S principles were used for the analysis. The initial diagnosis revealed leaks in airtightness, dents, and deficiencies in the sealing machine, with an OEE of 55.63% and 75% non-conforming products. After applying the methodologies, the OEE increased to 94%, non-conformities were reduced to 15%, and the McNemar test (p < 0.001) confirmed significant improvements.
