WHAT DO STUDENTS FROM A STATE SCHOOL IN ESPÍRITO SANTO SAY ABOUT THE NEWHIGH SCHOOL CURRICULUM

Abstract

This study aims to understand the critical evaluation of students enrolled in a state
school in Espírito Santo regarding the changes brought about by Law no. 13.415/2017 in the
LDB No. 9.394/96 for the provision of secondary education. It draws on authors dedicated to
producing knowledge about this stage of education and, methodologically, uses the assumptions
of qualitative research and case study, establishing three discussion groups with twenty students
to reflect on: a) what they know about the New Secondary Education; b) their assessment of the
organization and impacts of the reform on their educational paths; c) what they project based on
this education. The results show that, for the students involved in the research, the New High
School curriculum is characterized by curricular emptying, lack of dialogue/continuity with
Elementary Education, provision of precarious training for the working class, consequently
creating barriers to access, permanence and learning in Higher Education, insertion of the
popular class into the labor market in a subordinate way, and weakening of the social right to
education.
