This study aims to survey and analyze the academic literature on folklore in the history of education in Espírito Santo and Brazil. As a state of knowledge study, it is based on 11 theses and 16 dissertations as a documentary corpus. The sources were analyzed based on the theoretical-methodological assumptions of the Italian historian Carlo Ginzburg, focusing on Italian microhistory and relying on the method of evidence. The evidence points to an overlap between folklore and education, mediated by thinkers and institutions, from the Old Republic to the flourishing of the institutionalization of folklore in education, in the period referred to as the Brazilian and Capixaba folklore movement. The results show the names of João Simões Lopes Neto, Amadeu do Amaral, Villa-Lobos, Mário de Andrade, Cecília Meireles, Luís da Câmara Cascudo, Renato Almeida, Edison Carneiro, Maria Stella de Novaes, Guilherme Santos Neves and Florestan Fernandes as important advocates in the pedagogical scene of Brazilian folklore. Among the institutions presented are the Demological Society Project, the Superintendence of Musical and Artistic Education, the Ministry of Culture of São Paulo, the Brazilian Folklore Society, the National Conservatory of Orpheonic Singing, the National Folklore Commission, the Folklore Commission of Espirito Santo and the Campaign for the Defense of Brazilian Folklore.
