Burnout syndrome is one of the most studied phenomena in occupational health psychology, with teachers being one of the most common groups. The study aimed to collect and summarize the main results of research carried out regarding the factors associated with Burnout Syndrome in teachers in Brazil. The search was carried out in the databases Periódicos Capes, Scielo (Scientific Electronic Library Online), and BVS (Virtual Health Library of Brazil, Educ@/Fundação Carlos Chagas), from which, after inclusion and exclusion criteria, 44 articles were selected to compose the final sample. We analyzed the articles using two pre-existing categories (individual and position/job characteristics) and a newly emerging one (consequences). The results indicate that the production of knowledge is still unstable in terms of quantity/year and is a topic investigated predominantly by psychology with publications in national and international journals. The design, for the most part, was cross-sectional with non-probabilistic samples from the South region. The most used instrument was the MBI, followed by the CESQT, with predominantly bivariate statistical analyses. The most investigated level of education was basic education, followed by university education. The sociodemographic variables sex and age were the most investigated, and among the characteristics of the position/job were the workload, time of work, and occupational stressors. The main consequences investigated were the intention to abandon the profession and physical problems. This study points to the need to expand the research agenda on burnout in teachers.
