The objective was to describe environmental responsibility in the faculties of the National University of San Marcos. The method used was qualitative. It was concluded that environmental responsibility in the five faculties where the case studies were carried out lacks an environmental plan because they have not organized themselves to integrate the entire educational community and be accountable to the General Directorate of Environmental Responsibility. Furthermore, it was observed that the university's general plan is outdated and the planned activities were carried out for accreditation purposes. In the management of activities, the care of gardens and green areas as well as paper saving stand out; however, there is little management of actions to reduce drinking water, electricity, solid waste,
greenhouse gas emissions, and the use of solar energy and pure oxygen from green areas. In terms of academic training, the faculties have incorporated environmental competence into the graduate profile. However, while faculties such as Biology naturally develop environmental competence more, others incorporate it into the first year of study, while others only require it as an elective course. In terms of research, there is a lack of environmental research and patents until 2024. In terms of social outreach, sporadic reforestation and beach cleanup campaigns are observed in Lima.
