The objective is to develop theoretical-practical guidelines to use the newspaper as didactic material
in teaching mathematics in primary school in Venezuela. The methodology, based on the naturalistic
paradigm, uses a qualitative approach through the Constant Comparative Method (CCM). Data
collection included semi-structured interviews, classroom observations and document analysis, for a
comprehensive understanding of educational practices and their impacts on learning. Data analysis
using CCM involved coding, comparison, and theorizing to identify key evidence. Strict ethical standards
were followed, ensuring confidentiality and consent of participants. The results reveal that teachers
still use a behaviorist approach, decontextualizing mathematics. As final reflections, it is highlighted
that constructivist teaching links the language of the newspaper with the mathematical language of
the school curriculum, enriching the educational process and promoting a deeper and more
contextualized understanding of mathematical knowledge
