Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a science that uses behavioral principles to promote socially significant changes, and is widely applied in Neurodevelopmental Disorders (NDDs). This article reviews the literature on ABA, focusing on the differences and complementarities between Structured (Discrete Trial Teaching - DTT) and Naturalistic (Incidental Teaching, Pivotal Response Training - PRT, Naturalistic Evolutionary Behavioral Interventions - NDBI) disciplines. Structured interventions offer high predictability and reproducibility, effective for functional skills, while naturalistic disciplines promote application and generalization by integrating teaching into the child's routines and interests. Contemporary clinical practice tends to integrate both approaches, adapting to individual needs. The choice and combination of strategies, guided by functional assessment and data analysis, are crucial to improve outcomes in individuals with NDDs, regulating autonomy and quality of life.
