The study investigated the teaching strategies regarding health used by high school Physical Education (PE) teachers. This qualitative field research was conducted with seven state school teachers from Pernambuco through remote semi-structured interviews. Content analysis revealed that most teachers adopt the World Health Organization's definition of health but interpret it in various ways. They use diverse pedagogical strategies, balancing exposition, practice, prevention, and intervention, and face challenges in promoting health. The strategies have strengths and areas for improvement, suggesting that a more proactive approach could enhance students' health. The study concludes that it is necessary to strengthen the initial and continuing education of PE teachers to promote innovative and coherent pedagogical practices that improve health within the school community.
