Abstract

The present study aims to characterize the training of preceptors in health residency programs in Brazil, and the intervention strategies employed.  It’s an integrative literature review based on Galvão's framework. The guiding question of the research was, “What are the training needs of supervisors in health residency programs in Brazil, and what measures have been taken or proposed by the institution/authors?” According to the PEO strategy (P - population; E - exposure; O - outcome), the defined population was “supervisors of health residency programs in Brazil,” the defined exposure was “training,” “continuing education,” and the expected outcomes were “qualified supervisors.” Searches were conducted in sources such as PubMed, LILACS, SciELO, Educ@, and CAPES, from the years 2019 to 2024, using the descriptors “Professional Training, In-Service Training, Continuing Education, Internship and Residency, and Supervision.” The results showed that, although Brazilian studies highlight the need for interventions aimed at training supervisors in health residency programs, there is a limitation in research exploring effective strategies to provide such training. Future studies will be necessary to investigate in more detail the factors that may influence the training of supervisors, as well as the training strategies that yield effective.
