Analyzing and discussing the curricular and institutional teaching knowledge that constitutes the training of Ballroom Dancing (BD) teachers in Juiz de Fora - MG, graduated in Physical Education (PE), is the objective of this study. It is configured as a research with a qualitative approach structured through the correlation of bibliographic, documental and empirical sources. Theoretically, we dialogue with authors from the field of teacher training, in particular, Maurice Tardif (2014), in addition to specific references from the field of Dance and BD. The empirical material was built from conversations with 04 BD teachers, graduated in PE, working in Juiz de Fora - MG, in addition to a fifth teacher, author of the study, who also shared her formative experiences in BD. According to the subjects' narratives, we infer that the graduation in PE leaves a formative gap in relation to the BD, since it is not integrated as a specific subject nor contemplated as a content in the Dance subject. On the other hand, the graduation in PE corroborated both in the process of construction of a professional identity of the research subjects and in their formative process. Finally, the option for graduation in PE was due to the impossibility of part of the subjects to attend the University in the Dance course, constituting, for the investigated group, the most viable way to obtain professional recognition to work with BD.
