THE PERMANENCE OF MIGRANT STUDENTS IN HIGHER EDUCATION AND THE HOUSING PROGRAM AT UFC

This article addresses the permanence of migrant students in higher education based on a research carried out at the Federal University of Ceará. The purpose of the study consisted in understanding the students' perspectives regarding the repercussion of student assistance actions on their academic trajectories. In methodological terms, it was characterized by a qualitative approach, with a descriptive focus. To this end, the data collected in interviews with students assisted by the Housing Program was analyzed, as well as documentary and bibliographic research. The results point to the relevance of the student assistance policy, especially the actions of the Housing Program, for the permanence and completion of graduation, according to the reports of the interviewed students, in addition to having a positive impact on social and emotional aspects. This research will enable contributions in the practical field of student assistance policy as it subsidizes the interventions of professionals working in the area, in addition to the production of studies on the subject.
