MIND MAPS IN THE PRODUCTION OF TEACHING MATERIALS BY BIOLOGY LICENSEES

Abstract

 In all professions, it is necessary to have a plan that helps the professional to reflect on their actions when exercising their activity. In the case of teachers, such planning is as important as the act of teaching a class. A tool that can help in the planning of teaching activities are mind maps (MM), which help professionals develop their ideas in order to create connections between them. The MM can also be used in the planning of alternative teaching materials called thematic units (TU), which are complementary materials that contain a central theme, which can be useful to contextualize the syllabus. Thus, this work aimed to identify and report the use of mental maps by undergraduates as a tool for planning and producing complementary teaching materials, specifically TUs. For this, the MM prepared by undergraduate students of the Biological Sciences - Licentiate of the Federal University of Alfenas (UNIFAL) were analyzed, as well as semi-structured interviews. Data analysis generated a categorization based on the moments of reflection presented by the undergraduates. The results suggest that the MM helped the reflective process of the undergraduates in the construction of the TU.
