Abstract

This original article is about a playful didactic resource for learning Algebra in Elementary School. The objective was, in general, to know the effectiveness of the application of a playful pedagogical resource with riddles and mathematical challenges for the construction of an effective learning of the contents of Algebra, by students of the 7th year of Elementary School, from a school in the city of Butiá/RS. The research methodology was carried out by the qualitative method, taking into account, initially, three important aspects: the observations of the mediator teacher and the students involved in the experiment; their feedback in relation to the effectiveness of the experiment; and the comparison, from the teacher's point of view, in relation to previous years' learning with traditional methods. It was found that the use of the playful resource in question serves to promote meaningful and pleasurable learning, encouraging students to become active agents in the search for their own knowledge through raising hypotheses, solving problem situations, logical challenges and debates/exchanges between students during the stages of the game. It is necessary that the teacher guides the Algebra contents in a contextualized way, integrated with theoretical knowledge, leading students to attribute meaning to such learning. A playful pedagogical resource is a means that has the potential to enable the student to understand abstractions, concepts and algebraic thinking, appropriating new knowledge and being able to transform information into meaningful learning, useful to their experience and also , learn in a pleasurable way.
