Objective: To propose a reflection on the applicability of nursing theories with regard to the maternity of reborn dolls in the context of gestational loss. Development: The symbolic use of reborn dolls emerges as a strategy for re-signifying interrupted maternity, the effectiveness of which must be conditioned by the broadened view of health professionals on gestational bereavement, as well as by theoretical references that support the knowledge of nursing professionals, who during care incorporate integrative practices and respect for the time and singularities of each woman. Conclusion: It was found that the field of care for women who experience pregnancy loss is complex and based on symbolic and affective reflections about perinatal bereavement. In this respect, clinical practices based on evidence and recognition of the subjectivity of suffering should be encouraged.
