In recent decades, Discursive Textual Analysis (ATD) has been present in the theoretical/methodological design of an increasing number of investigations. In this article we intend to understand “what is shown” by/in ATD from the perception of a group of master's students, linked to a curricular component that focused on the aforementioned methodology. During the proposed actions, postgraduate students watched three videos by professor Maria do Carmo Galiazzi, transcribed, unitized, developed titles and unifying arguments based on the selected speeches. Subsequently, these arguments were analyzed, enabling the creation of units of meaning and categories that structured a metatext, considering the assumptions of this methodology. Emerging understandings include: i) the search for non-judgment in the description of the phenomenon; ii) its potential in the researcher’s self-education process; iii) learning/concern for the exercise of writing, and; iv) the constant review of understandings, providing an opportunity for an incessant search for new knowledge.
