Abstract

Understanding the human curiosity to comprehend social phenomena and identify deep nuances in their interpretations, qualitative research is a highly relevant method. In this sense, the present study aims to investigate the origin and evolution of the qualitative method in sciences, highlighting its importance in Social Sciences and Humanities. The justification lies in the growing relevance of this method in the academic and professional fields, as well as the author's personal experience with the method. The methodology involves a review of national and international literature, focusing on books and scientific articles. The expected results include a deep understanding of the historical and theoretical  roots of the qualitative method, and the promotion of critical reflection on its potentialities and limitations.
