University adaptation in first-year students of a public university in Ica – Peru

Objective: The objective of this scientific research is identify the levels and dimensions of university adaptation in first year students of a public university in Ica. Method: the method of this scientific research is quantitative and basic with and descriptive - comparative cut. Participated 610 students of different areas: Science and Engineering, Health Science and Social and Humanity Science. We used the Academic Experiences Questionnaire (QVA-r) for the data harvesting. Result: In university adaptation variable was got 57% in average level, 25.1% in high level and 17.9% in low level. The predominant result was average level getting 51.6% in personal adaptation, 43.9% in interpersonal adaptation, 51.1% in degree adaptacion, 59.5% in study adaptation and 60.8% in institutional adaptation. It was identified statistically significant differebces: Men adapt better tha women, Health Science stedents adapt better than students of another areas, in degree adaptation and institutional adaptation variables did not found differences according to occupation. Conclusion: It was founded that the most of the first year students are able to face up and keep to the university life getting their indeitity development and optimal adaptation.
