Abstract

The prose poems in Judith Gautier's Livre de Jade (1867) are almost always explored through comparison with the classical Chinese poetry from which the author drew inspiration. This text seeks other ways of approaching the volume, therefore we trace the history of Gautier's inscription in the tradition of the prose poem and resort to the author's production as an art critic to analyze what is in the anthology beyond its source of inspiration.
