How is the canon of a discipline in Social Sciences formed? This article delves into the process of how the canon is formed and how it can be changed. It seeks to explore, through the perspectives of two anthropologists, Roberto Cardoso de Oliveira and Joseph-Anténor Firmin, ways to propose the transformation of a discipline's thinking. Roberto Cardoso de Oliveira was an important Brazilian anthropologist during the latter part of the twentieth century. He was responsible, toward the end of his life, for proposing a study on the history of the formation of anthropology. Joseph-Anténor Firmin, on the other hand, was a significant Haitian anthropologist from the late nineteenth century. He challenged influential thinkers of his time but was forgotten by the global anthropology historiography until recently. The goal is to bring together the thinking of both authors to understand ways to transform the history of Social Sciences throughout Latin America.
